SAAC Completes "Cans Across the Conference"
Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith Student Athlete Advisory Committee
(SAAC) just completed the "Cans Across the Conference," a USA South
Conference competition between member institutions. This year
Meredith student-athletes collected 1,010 cans of food, which is a
record high for the Avenging Angels. Overall, the USA South
collected 51,248 items, the second-largest total in the
conference's history.
The cans collected by Meredith College were donated to two
locations. Half was donated to the Raleigh Rescue Mission, a
shelter in downtown Raleigh, as a part of their "Changing Lives
Here" program. The other half was taken to Pamlico County, N.C. for
victims of Hurricane Irene who are still recovering from the
devastating storm that hit the area earlier this year.
SAAC appreciates the support and can contributions from the
students, faculty and staff across the campus. A special thank you
also goes out to Jackie Myers, Fiona Barkley, Kim Scavone, Sara
Cranford and Jessica Dzeskewicz who put on our "Can of Corn" Corn
Hole Tournament this fall which brought in 800 cans; Puja Patel and
Ila Torfin, our Cans Across the Conference Co-Chairs; and to the
Health Center, our department competition winners who brought in 80
cans.
