May 26, 2012: Cary, N.C. - The 2012 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships concluded on Saturday with the men's and women's individuals and doubles championships being decided. Emory pulled off the singles sweep with Dillion Pottish winning in men's and Gabrielle Clark taking the women's title. Amherst took the doubles sweep as Luis Rattenhuber/Austin Chafetz took the men's crown while Laura Danzig/Gabby Devlin won the women's title.
The men's singles final featured Emory's Pottish against Nicholas Ballou from Cal Lutheran. Pottish took the first set 6-2 and Ballou knoted things up with a 6-1 win in the second. The match was pushed to a third set with Pottish gaining the 6-2 win in the third and sealing the championship with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory.
In the women's singles, Lok-Sze Leung from Middlebury and Clark from Emory will played for the championship. Clark took down Leung in straight sets and winning a tie breaker in the second set 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).
In men doubles, Amrik Donkena/Mya Smith-Dennis of Gustavus Adolphus faced off against Luis Rattenhuber/Austin Chafetz of Amherst. The duo from Gustavus Adolphus took the opening set 6-4. Rattenhuber and Chafetz then had a come back from 5-3 in the second set to take the 7-5 win to tie the match at one all. Amherst kept it rolling as they took the first three in the third set to roll to the 6-3 win in the third set.
On the women's side, Zahra Dawson/Gabrielle Clark of Emory and Laura Danzig/Gabby Devlin of Amherst met in the doubles final. Emory jumped out quick as they took the first set 6-4, but Amherst quickly answered with a 6-1 win. In the third set, Amherst started the set hot as they took the first three and were up 5-1 at one point. Emory then started a roll of their own as they tied the match at 5-all. The match then went to a tiebreaker at 6-all with Amherst winning the tiebreaker 7-3.
A total of six NCAA championships were handed out over the week with Emory winning the men's team title and Williams taking their fifth women's championship on Wednesday.
