Ryan Phelps joined the Meredith College tennis staff in August 2015 as the assistant coach.
Phelps began his coaching career in 1998 with Apex High School, and led the Cougars to eight conference championships, multiple regional wins, and a state title during his 14-year tenure. He earned Southwest Wake Conference Tennis Coach of the Year honors on 12 occasions, and his team collected the NCHSAA State Sportsmanship Team Award.
He began a teaching career the Wake County Public Schools in 1997 and remains at Apex as the co-chair of the healthful living department. Phelps also serves as coordinator of the Physical Education Pupil Instructor Program (PEPI). High school students develop and implement physical activities for local elementary school programs.
In 2012 Phelps became a tennis instructor at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. He coaches players ages 5-to-18 and helps facilitate adult tennis programs as well.
Phelps resides in Apex with wife Megan and their two children, Charlotte and Davis.
