  • Barkley to Take on New Role with Meredith Athletics
    April 25, 2017
    Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers is pleased to announce Fiona Barkley's new role as the department's assistant athletic director for advancement and external relations beginning August 1, 2017. Thanks to the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant, Barkley will resign as head volleyball coach to take on a new challenge within Meredith athletics.
  • Golf Classic Rescheduled for May 8
    April 23, 2017
    Due to the rainy weather forecasted for today and tomorrow, the 19th Annual Meredith College Golf Classic at Brier Creek Country Club has been postponed until Monday, May 8, 2017. The Meredith athletics department will host the full event complete with 18 holes of golf, silent auction, raffles, and dinner, beginning with check-in at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 8.
  • USA South Conference Presidents Cup Standings

    Meredith College finished the year ranked second in final USA South Women's Presidents Cup standings, just one and one-half points behind the leader. Regular season championships in soccer, lacrosse, and softball, along with tournament titles in volleyball and lacrosse elevated the Avenging Angels point total.
  • Softball Angels End Season Early with Record 28 Wins

    The East top-seed Meredith College softball team ended their season early with an all-time college record 28 wins Friday morning. The West three-seed Huntingdon Hawks scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate the Angels from the USA South Tournament.
  • 5-4 Loss to Ferrum Leaves Softball Angels Battling to Stay Alive in USA South Tournament

    The #1 East Meredith College softball Angels gave up a 3-0 lead in the third and left the winning run on base in the seventh to fall 5-4 to the #3 East Ferrum Panthers in Thursday's USA South Tournament action. Meredith must now battle up through the losers bracket beginning with West #3 Huntingdon Friday at 10 a.m.
  • Jackson Garners Nod from NFCA; USA South Tourney Continues Thursday

    Meredith College junior hurler Taylor Jackson garnered a nod Wednesday from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for her performance last week in the USA South East Division playoff best-of-three series with William Peace. Meredith won the series to advance to this week's six-team, double-elimination USA South Tournament in LaGrange, Georgia.

    The East Division top-seed Meredith College softball squad downed the East six-seed William Peace Pacers in Sunday's game three of the best-of-three series to advance to next week's double-elimination USA South Tournament series in LaGrange, Georgia.

    Saturday's USA South East Division playoff doubleheader between #1 East Meredith College and #6 East William Peace did not disappoint. A 1-0 defensive battle in game one in favor of the Avenging Angels led to a thrilling 7-6 game two win for Peace. The split forced the best-of-three series to a final pairing Sunday at Noon.

    Meredith College softball's Kim Scavone collected the USA South Coach of the Year honor for the second time in program history to lead the Avenging Angels honorees. Haley Ervin and Sarah Watson earned All-USA South first team honors as a designated player and outfielder, respectively.
  • Joseph/Codispoti/Cerasi Honored with USA South Weekly Nod

    Three Meredith College student-athletes earned recognition Monday from the USA South Conference office. Carlee Joseph collected her second selection this season as the women's lacrosse Player of the Week, and teammate Alyssa Codispoti was recognized for the second time this year as the sport's Defensive Player of the Week. Julia Cerasi was tabbed Softball's Rookie Pitcher of the Week for the second time as well.

    With the close of the USA South softball regular season Sunday, Meredith College and Piedmont lead the way as the top seed in the East and West Divisions, respectively. And both programs earned their division's Regular Season Championship as a result.
  • Softball Angels Clinch USA South East Division with Sweep Over Baldwin

    With a 2-1, 8-inning thriller over the visiting Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels, Meredith College softball clinched the USA South East Division Regular Season Championship. Rookie Angel Myah Morse pitched a no-hitter in the nightcap to finish off Baldwin 5-0 for the sweep. Senior Alyssa D'Arco was recognized in between games for her four-year career and commitment to Meredith.
  • Softball Sweeps Ferrum to Reclaim Lead of USA South East Division

    The Meredith College softball Angels persevered for a 2-1 finish in game one of Saturday's USA South doubleheader with Ferrum and closed out the sweep with a 4-1 game two victory. Sarah Watson led with five hits, three runs, and one RBI on the day.

    The host Averett Cougars forced a split in Thursday's USA South doubleheader with the Meredith College softball team on a 6-3 game one victory. The Avenging Angels responded with a 4-1 win in the nightcap.

    In Tuesday's non-conference action the Meredith College softball Angels handled the visiting St. Andrews Knights 2-1 in game one and finished off the day 8-0 in five innings. The four Meredith pitchers shared today's duties with two wins and two saves earned on the day.

    Meredith College freshman softball pitcher Julia Cerasi and junior lacrosse defender Cameron Ruffin earned a nod Monday from the USA South Athletic Conference. Cerasi garnered her first Rookie Pitcher of the Week selection, and Ruffin was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Panthers Steal One from Softball in League Doubleheader

    The Meredith College softball Angels allowed the visiting LaGrange Panthers to steal game one of Sunday's USA South doubleheader and now share the East Division lead with Ferrum College. LaGrange won the first 7-4, and the Avenging Angels capped off the day with a 3-1 victory in game two.

    The Meredith College softball Avenging Angels notched two more USA South wins in Saturday's doubleheader versus the visiting Huntingdon Hawks. The Angels remain out front in the East Division with just nine days remaining in regular season play.

    Thursday's USA South softball doubleheader versus Raleigh rival William Peace did not disappoint, as the Meredith College Angels swept the Pacers with help from 17 hits, eight strikeouts, and three dingers over the left field fence. Meredith leads the East Division, and WPU sits in sixth.

    Two Meredith College Avenging Angels earned USA South weekly honors as announced Monday from the league office. Lacrosse attack Jennifer Halvorson earned her first weekly nod as the Player of the Week, and softball's Myah Morse collected her first Rookie Pitcher of the Week selection.

    The Meredith College softball Avenging Angels required eight innings to down the host Maryville Scots 6-5 in game one of Sunday's USA South doubleheader. But Meredith managed the Scots 6-2 in the nightcap for the sweep.

    The Meredith College softball Angels lost a pair of heartbreakers Saturday versus one of the USA South's newest members Salem College. Game one required three extra innings to close out 7-6 in favor of the Spirits, and game two followed with a 3-1 loss to the hosts.

    This year's rival softball doubleheader between William Peace and Meredith College has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 23. The first pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m. at the home of the Avenging Angels.

    Meredith College sophomore catcher Rachel Peel received a nod Wednesday from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for her performance last week during the team's spring break, eight-game road tour. The Avenging Angels posted a 5-3 record on the week with notable wins over #12 WPI and USA South Conference foe N.C. Wesleyan.

  • Bucklin Leads Softball Angels in Pair of Wins at Methodist

    Led by Brittany Bucklin, the Meredith College softball team collected a pair of road wins at Methodist University Tuesday afternoon. Bucklin tallied four hits with four runs batted in to place the Angels atop the USA South East Division alongside Averett with William Peace, Salem, and Maryville next on the schedule.
