Knights Knock Off Basketball 106-94
Buena Vista, Va. - The Meredith basketball team continued their season on the road on Tuesday night. The Avenging Angels dropped their first game of the year as Southern Virginia won the game 106-94. With Megan Rahn's 21 points she has moved into 6th place with 1,140 career points on the Meredith all time scoring list passing Beth Vernon (1999-2003) who finished with 1,124.
The game was fast paced and saw Meredith score 94 points which is the highest output by the Avenging Angels since November 16, 2008. Southern Virginia has scored over 100 points in each of their last three games. Southern Virginia (5-1) held the halftime advantage of 49-32 over Meredith (1-1). The Avenging Angels outscored the Knights 62-57 in the second half.
Meredith was led by Rahn with 21 points and seven rebounds. Bryana Holmes added 20 points including four three pointers. Allyson Stephenson had 15 points and nine rebounds. Olivia Seeger had 14 points to go with eight rebounds. Keyanka Bailey had 13 points. Southern Virginia was led by Christina Augustin with 27 points.
Southern Virginia held the 55-45 advantage on the boards. Shooting percentage was fairly even at 43% for Meredith and 45% for Southern Virginia.
Meredith returns to action on November 30 as they open up their USA South Athletic Conference schedule as they host Averett at 7 p.m.
