Basketball Sweeps Away Hornets on Season, 66-56

Winchester, Va. - The Meredith basketball team completed a season sweep of Shenandoah University with a 66-56 USA South Conference win Sunday afternoon.

Much like in its initial meeting of the season, Meredith (6-17, 4-12 USA South) erased a double-digit second half deficit to rally for the win over the Hornets (9-14, 6-10).

Leading 47-36 after Shenandoah's Holly Chittenden jumper with 16:50 remaining, Shenandoah watched the Avenging Angels get back into the game with a 9-0 run over the next 3:04.  Shenandoah answered with a 5-0 spurt in the next 64 seconds, but Meredith countered by scoring the game's next 13 points in a span of 6:20 to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Shenandoah was able to cut the deficit to two points but Meredith clinched the game by scoring the final eight points of the contest.  Shenandoah was held without a field goal for the final 4:35.

Shenandoah held a 52-46 advantage on the boards and outscored Meredith 20-16 on points in the paint and had 15 of the game's 16 second-chance points.

Meredith was led by Megan Rahn's double-double of  23 points and 10 rebounds.  Kristen Alford had 16 while Bryana Holmes added 12 and nine rebounds.  Keyanka Bailey put in 11 points and seven rebounds.

Meredith returns to action on Wednesday as they host Peace College in their home finale.
