Basketball Loses Season Finale, Rahn Moves to Second on Career List
Fayetteville, N.C. - The Meredith basketball team completed their season on the road as they fell in a close game to USA South foe Methodist University 74-71. Meredith's Megan Rahn (Broughton High School/Raleigh, N.C.) had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Avenging Angels in her last game. During the game she moved into second place on Meredith's all time scoring list with 1,693 career points. She passed Nicole Hall's 1,691 that she had during the 2004-08 seasons.
The Monarchs got going quick as they took a 8-2 lead on the Avenging Angels to start the half. Two free throws by Rahn at the 10 minute mark would tie the game at 18 and then give Meredith the lead at 19-18. That would start a 12-0 run for Meredith (6-19, 4-14 USA South) as a layup by Rah'nika Jones with less than seven minutes left would give Meredith the 29-18 lead. The Avenging Angels would continue their first half dominance as they lead by as many as fifteen and maintained the 41-28 halftime advantage over Methodist (14-11, 11-7).
The Monarchs would widdle down the Meredith lead and tie the game up with 1:49 left in the game as they took the 72-71 advantage. Meredith would not gain another point in the game as Methodist made key rebounds and free throws down the stretch to take the three point victory.
Meredith was led by Rahn's 24 points and 12 rebounds. Keyanka Bailey had her own double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds while Kristen Alford had 13 points. Methodist was led by 22 points and nine rebounds.
