Lacrosse Angels Soar Past Monarchs

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith College lacrosse team wrapped up the conference season with a decisive 20-6 victory over USA South foe Methodist University Wednesday evening. Raven Winters and Katie Burnet combined for more than half of Meredith's goals in the win.

Head Coach Lauren Scott and her team celebrated seniors Lauren DeLucia and Angelica Ramkellawan just prior to the opening draw.

The Avenging Angels posted four points on the scoreboard before MU's Hope Motahari took advantage of a Meredith foul for a free shot at the net at 20:30.

Victoria Doyle, Danielle Lee, and Lottie Meadows got in on the scoring action for the Angels to help Meredith cruise to a 17-1 halftime lead.

After the intermission Monarch Cassie Walter put together back-to-back goals in the first 70 seconds before Meredith's defense slowed her down for her third-of-four unassisted scores on the night.

Molly Miller assisted on the next three netters for Meredith as the Avenging Angels put away the match for good.

Winters led all with six goals, and Burnet added five with three assists and six draw controls. Meadows netted a trio of scores, and Lee and Miller dropped in a pair apiece. Freshman Alison Reisert added her second career assist teaming up with Burnet in the first period, and Doyle added a pair to go along with one goal in the win.

Walter finished with four on the night, adding one assist for Matahari's first half score.

The Avenging Angels close out the regular season with a pair of non-conference matches this weekend. Meredith travels to South Carolina's Newberry Friday, following with Columbia College Saturday afternoon.

Meredith earned a bye in the opening round of the USA South Conference Tournament, advancing directly to the semifinals scheduled for Friday, April 11, in Rocky Mount.
