Tennis Angels Continue with Singles Play in Monarch Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Meredith College Avenging Angels fared well in Saturday's action at the Methodist University Women's Tennis Invitational.

Gillian Emerson dropped her first match to Monarch Davi Barbour but recovered for a two set win over HU's Olivia Dannon. She will face off with Averett's Eleanor Crane at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Flight #2. In Flight #3 Peyton Beaman defeated Kateri Johnson 6-1, 6-3 but was knocked off by Ariana Orzco. Beaman will play Hannah Mattson at 10:15 a.m.

Elizabeth Johsnon won her first match in Flight #4, but her loss to Methodist's Hannah Abrahamson paired her with Han Le Sunday. In the same flight Emily Wilkinson will face off with with PU's Allison Wilke in the semifinals of the consolation round Sunday morning.

Sierra Dougherty advanced to the winner's bracket of Flight #5 with a win over Breanna Williams, but lost to Aly Andrews. Dougherty will face off with AU's Miriam Lindberg tomorrow.

Rookies Logan King and Natalie Collins both advanced to the Flight #6 winners bracket with a pair of wins, and Collins went on to defeat Monarch Casey Carroll to advance to the third round with Audrey Greeson Sunday. King lost her second match and will face Carroll Sunday.

Day three of the MU Invite is set for a 9 a.m. start Sunday in Fayetteville. Check back for final results.
