Thomas Leads Meredith Track in Trojan Challenge

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- The Meredith College track & field program faced off with a selection of Division II programs Friday afternoon at the University of Mount Olive Trojan Challenge. Essence Thomas scored all seven of Meredith's points on the day.

Thomas led the Angels with a seventh-place finish in the 200m in a pace of 26.80, just one-tenth of a second above her career-best performance. She knocked more than five seconds off her 400m pace to finish fourth in the event overall and set a new all-time Meredith record in 1:00.02.

In the 800m run Kiara Glover improved her season-best by more than five seconds. Breanna Hollar posted a 15th-place finish with a pace of 2:51.47.

Avenging Angel thrower Amy Rhoney extended her career-best shot put distance by 0.72m for an 18th-place overall finish. Taylor Wilson threw for 6.36m. Rhoney placed 22nd in the discus with a distance of 23.74m.

Meredith returns to competition next Saturday at the Adidas Winthrop Invite in Rock Hill, S.C.
