Towson, Md. - The Meredith Field Hockey program dropped its 2023 road opener 3-1 against Goucher College Monday afternoon on Beldon Field in hard fought fashion.
Meredith (0-2) missing star defender
MiRonda Swepson brought backup goalkeeper, freshman
Molly Click, out of the goal and onto the defensive line. The Angels still held Goucher (2-0) scoreless in the first period of action even though they were out shot 12-4. The Angels flipped the script in the second quarter earning five more shots.
Unfortunately, Goucher found the back of the goal twice in that second period and headed into the halftime break with a 2-0 advantage.
Just five minutes into the third period, freshman
Megan Ingenito put the Angels on the board to cut into the Goucher lead. This was Ingenitos first career goal along with the first goal of the season for the Avenging Angels.
In the end the Angels fell to the Gophers 3-1 in one of the hardest fought games in program history.
Ingenito tallied five shots on goal while fellow freshman
Charlotte Dyer also added five. In goal junior
Shae-Lynn Henderson racked up 18 saves.
Meredith as a team earned 11 shots and a program record 13 penalty corners.
The Angels are back in action when they host Ferrum College, Wednesday at 6 p.m.
