Fredericksburg, Va. - Meredith Field Hockey hit the road for one final competition before closing out their 2024 campaign. The Angels faced the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, October 26th. The Eagles are the highest ranking team Meredith has faced this year and forced the Angels into an early deficit to end the season with a record of 4-10.
How it Happened:
Mary Washington flew into the Angels defensive circle, catching them by surprise and tallying two goals in the first minute of play. The Eagles continued to push against Meredith to end the first quarter 0-5.
The Angels weren't going to back down and shut out the Eagles over the course of the next 15 minutes. With less than two minutes on the clock,
Carleigh Harris made a crucial defensive save to enter the half locked at 0-5.
Meredith entered the second half ready to fight back against the Eagles, determined to generate some offensive pressure.
Charlotte Dyer created numerous break away attempts, making quick work of the Eagles defense, but couldn't convert in the circle. The Angels Defense led by
Shae-Lynn Henderson held Mary Washington to their lowest corner total in the third quarter, allowing just three opportunities to the Eagles. Unfortunately the Eagles were able to capitalize on Meredith and extended their lead 0-7 going into the fourth period.
The Angels got better and better each quarter, allowing fewer shots in each period; coming to an all time low for the Eagles with just six shots in the fourth. Despite their efforts, Mary Washington found the back of the cage one more time to end the match 0-8 over the Angels.
