Dyer's Late Game Winner Leads Field Hockey Past Oberlin 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - For the second straight day in Springfield, Ohio, Meredith field hockey emerged victorious by a single goal, this time taking down Oberlin by a 2-1 margin in a neutral site contest.

Charlotte Dyer played hero on Monday, connecting off an assist from Marissa Tilgner with just under eight minutes to play in regulation. From there, the Avenging Angels continued their stifling defense, holding Oberlin off the scoreboard as the clock ticked down to preserve the win.

It was a defensive battle throughout, with the teams combining for just 10 shots on goal for the entirety of the contest.

Neither team scored in the first half, but late in the third period, Meredith tallied the all important first goal, as senior Megan Ingenito scored for the sixth time in the team's past six games, coming off an assist from fellow senior Dyer.

While Meredith was able to take the 1-0 lead into the final quarter, it was short lived, as Oberlin found the game-tying goal just over five minutes into the period to knot the game up at 1-1.

However, the Avenging Angels were undeterred, responding almost immediately on Dyer's 11th goal of the season, which tied Ingenito for the team lead. The goal came off Tilgner's fourth assist of the season, which ranks third on the team.

Clinging to the one-goal lead in the final minute, Oberlin's final attempt was saved by Meredith goalkeeper Lyla Burdine to ensure the victory for the Avenging Angels.

Up next, Meredith will return home but face a tough test, hosting No. 19 Washington & Lee in Raleigh this Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Dyer recorded a goal and an assist in both of Meredith's wins in Ohio. She now has four games where she has at least one goal and one assist.
- Ingenito has scored in five of the team's past six games, totaling six goals in that span.
