ASHLAND, Va. - Meredith tennis opened up its fall campaign on Saturday afternoon in Virginia, battling but falling to a tough Randolph-Macon team by a 6-1 margin.
However, the day for the Avenging Angels was highlighted by
Molly Zuburg's straight set triumph at No. 3 singles. The sophomore won a hard-fought match, besting her opponent by a 7-5, 6-3 margin to put a point on the board for Meredith.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out with a pair of wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 2 doubles to clinch the opening point of the match. Meredith showed toughness to take several games at No. 1, but the Yellow Jackets added the win.
All six singles lines were decided in two sets, with RMC taking five of the six. However, Zuburg flipped the script in her match, taking a decisive victory in her first match of the season.
Up next, Meredith will host its first of two home dual matches this fall, taking on Livingstone College next Saturday, September 26 at 11 a.m.
