Basketball Opens with a 63-49 Win at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Meredith College basketball team finished off the Randolph Wildcats 63-49 in Saturday's non-conference action. This win marks the first season opening victory for the Avenging Angels since 2013. Rookies Kate Perko and Lindsay Bell set the tone with a pair of double-doubles to launch their collegiate careers.

MCBB shot 48.4 percent from the field in the second half, with four players in double figures, and 75 percent overall from the stripe to put away the Wildcats.

Perko led the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Bell completed her double-double with 11 points, including the only MCBB three-pointer on the day, and 12 boards. Kimberly Schuh knocked in 12 points with nine rebounds, two assists, and Caroline Coleman posted 10 points, two rebounds.

Freshman Zaina Hook dished out five assists, dropping in three field goals, and Madison Gladwell posted eight points and as many rebounds.

The Angels remain in Virginia for a pairing Sunday at Lynchburg University. Tip-off versus the Hornets is slated for Noon in Turner Gymnasium with live action available HERE.
