DEMOREST, Ga. -- The Meredith College lacrosse Avenging Angels had no issues with the 22-hour rain delay leading up to Monday morning's USA South match at Piedmont College. Olivia Higgs led MC Lax with nine points, five caused turnovers, to shut out the Lions, 23-0.
Today's match marked the eighth consecutive win in 9-4 series versus the conference rival Lions. The win also marks the 34th consecutive USA South regular season victory for Meredith as they close out 2019 Saturday afternoon with the program's fourth regular season title.
Seven Avenging Angels contributed to the total points accumulated in today's win, including Higgs with six goals, three assists. Julie Capretti and Lilia Cruz dished out three assists apiece as well with a combined seven goals from the attacks.
Holly Hite contributed on both ends of the field with three goals, four caused turnovers, and a match-high 10 draw controls. Hite's weekend total bumps her to 517 career draw controls, more than double the next highest career total from Sarah Arbes at 249. Arbes collected five in today's contest with five caused turnovers and as many ground balls. Rookies Maya Flake and Olivia Blake combined for nine total points in six goals, three assists, and Julia Doyle notched one apiece.
Head Coach Lauren Scott, her staff, and team will honor six players Saturday prior to Meredith's final home contest with the first draw slated for Noon versus the Greensboro Pride.
