RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer squad dropped Saturday's non-conference pairing 2-1 to a technically skilled Eastern Mennonite Royals team. The Avenging Angels defensive line in Annah Bishop, Katie Quinn, and Hunter Straub held back the visiting attack through much of the game.

Miranda Lutz stopped seven attempts on goal from the Royals, but the defense slowed down the offensive threat throughout the 90 minutes of play.

EMU's Ariel Barbosa netted the first goal of the match in the 27th minute of play. And Meredith's Lillian Fox evened the score late in the period for a 1-1 tie heading into the intermission.

After a largely defenisive second half, the Avenging Angels put forth a pair of terrific opportunities at the goal only to be denied a shot while deep into goalie territory. And Eastern Mennonite's Laura Rittenhouse found Leigh Lumsden on the right wing for a shot deep into the lower left corner for the game winner in the 83rd minute.

EMU's Leah Wenger saved three of Meredith's attempts with a pair of team saves to assist in the effort. The Avenging Angels recorded three stops to aid Lutz.

MCSC travel back to Virginia for another middweek contest, this time to Roanoke College in Salem for a 6 p.m. start.
