GREENSBORO, N.C. — In Wednesday afternoon's USA South pairing at Greensboro College, the Meredith College soccer defense held off the Pride until the final minutes of regulation in a 1-0 loss. Emily Haynes recorded 10 saves in her second career match in goal for the Angels.
The Avenging Angels spent much of the time defending the hosts as GC launched 13 shots at the goal each half with eight in just the first 10 minutes of play. Led by Katie Quinn, Meredith's defense helped Haynes protect the box throughout the first stanza.
Early in the second frame, the Avenging Angels made a series of attempts at the net beginning with a shot by Kaelin Sanderford. Morgan Thomas and Hannah Elvington found themselves within striking distance but were unable to finish.
Greensboro's Logan Schnabl settled the match in favor of the Pride in the 88th minute with a game winning goal.
Meredith remains on the road Friday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match at Averett during the college's fall recess.
