Angels Collect Two Dubs at USA South Play Day

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball Angels collected a pair of wins at Saturday's USA South Play Day hosted by the Pfeiffer Falcons. MCVB swept the hosts 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-16) and followed with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 24-26, 25-17) win over the Greensboro Pride.

Meredith's offense outpaced the Falcons throughout the match, resulting in 40 kills to just 29 from PU to go along with a .337 hitting percentage to .073 from Pfeiffer. Ally Copenhaver led the match with nine, while Cathy Delano and Hailey Long notched seven apiece. Caroline Corey posted six with five digs.

Avery Bowman and Lauren Grodi teamed up for 27 assists, and Lauren Phillips impressed with 11 digs.

vs. Greensboro
The Avenging Angels had GC down two sets to none, but the Pride managed to slip past Meredith in the third to force another frame. A late fourth-set rally secured the match for MCVB.

Kenzie Moore and Corey shared the match lead of 11 kills with two members of the Pride, and Delano added nine with three blocks. Whitney Bolton stepped in with eight, and Copenhaver and Long recorded seven apiece. The Bowman/Grodi duo dished our 33 assists, and Phillips tallied five and a leading 18 digs. Samantha Smith posted 10, and Bowman recorded Meredith's only double-double grabbing 13.

MCVB travels to N.C. Wesleyan for a Tuesday night pairing with the Bishops before returning to Weatherspoon Gym Saturday. Meredith athletics invites all alumnae-athletes to return to campus October 5 for a reunion with teammates and other Avenging Angels. Link HERE to register for the event.
