Volleyball Soars Past Mary Baldwin, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College volleyball earned a clean sweep over Mary Baldwin, downing the Fighting Squirrels, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-9), completing a perfect day in their USA South tri-match at Weatherspoon Gymnasium. 

After Mary Baldwin (1-19, 0-6 USA South) got the first point of the opening set, the Avenging Angels rattled off eight of the next nine points to take an early 8-2 lead. Meredith would later go on a 9-1 run for their largest lead, 23-7.

In the second set with score knotted 3-3, Meredith (11-6, 5-1 USA South) would go on another 8-1 run to opening a commanding lead. Senior Caroline Corey had five of her match high 12 kills during the second frame. Meredith jumped out fast in the final set, building a comfortable 15-5 lead before coasting the rest of the way.

Sophomore Bailey Lucas paced the Avenging Angels with 14 assists, while junior Lauren Phillips led all players with 16 digs.

Meredith is back in action Tuesday night on the road versus William Peace at 7 p.m.
