RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball Avenging Angels rallied after a tight first set to finish off host William Peace 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) in Tuesday night's USA South action. Lauren Phillips and Avery Bowman combined for 32 of MCVB's 49 digs, and Kenzie Moore stuffed four Pacer attempts to push the Avenging Angels to a straight-set victory.
In the first stanza the teams tied on eight occasions with MCVB finally taking the lead for good at 19-18 with a 3-0 rally on kills from Ally Copenhaver and Hailey Long, followed by a solo block from Moore.
Meredith assumed the lead on the third point in the second stanza and never relinquished control through the final point of the match. The Pacers used all four timeouts in the final two frames but would never find a way past the Angels.
Caroline Corey, Long, and Copenhaver landed seven kills apiece for MCVB, and Cathy Delano added six from the middle. Bowman dished out 16 assists for her fourth double-double of the season, and Lauren Grodi recorded eight.
WPU's Brienna Laskowski led all with a dozen kills, adding 10 digs.
The Avenging Angels host USA South foe Salem College Thursday evening at 7 p.m. during the College's fall recess before a second chance at Averett the following week in Danville, Va.
