STAUNTAN, VA – Volleyball earned two USA South Conference victories on Saturday, defeating Methodist 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-7) and Mary Baldwin 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) at a tri-match hosted by Mary Baldwin.
Against Methodist, the Avenging Angels jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead. The Monarchs would battle back to take a 15-11 lead. Meredith would eventually tie the score, 19-19, but Methodist would close out the set on a 6-2 run to take the first set, 25-21. Meredith would bounce back in the second set, taking an early 11-1 advantage before cruising to take the second set, 25-13.
In the third set, Meredith would find themselves trailing 21-17, but an 8-1 rally that saw three kills from Kenzie Moore gave Meredith the set, 25-22. The Avenging Angels would ride that momentum to take the fourth set, 25-7.
Versus Mary Baldwin, The Avenging Angels would gradually build their lead up to 17-10 in the first set, eventually taking the set, 25-18. Holding onto a 17-16 lead in the second set, Meredith would close out on an 8-0 run, winning the set 25-16. Trailing 18-8 in the third, Mary Baldwin would claw their way back to within three, 18-15, but Meredith was too much as they won the third frame, 25-16.
Meredith (18-7, 12-2 USA South) hosts William Peace on Tuesday, October 29, at 7p.m. in the regular season.
