RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College junior libero Lauren Phillips collected her fourth USA South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year honor as announced Monday from the conference office. She and her team will host early rounds of tournament action tomorrow night beginning at 5 p.m. in Weatherspoon Gym in an effort to defend their 2018 title.
Phillips led the Angels to a 1-1 record last week with a pair of match-high digs. She grabbed 28 digs in a 3-1 loss to William Peace at home last week and closed out the regular season Friday night with 21 in a 3-1 win at Salem. She averaged 6.13 digs and 1.50 assists in the week's conference action.
Phillips ranks second in digs and digs per set among USA South players heading into tomorrow's post-season play. East third-seed William Peace and sixth-seed Methodist face off at 5 p.m. tomorrow, and second-seed MCVB will take on the winner at 7:30 p.m.
Admission will be charged for all conference tournament games at $6 for adults and $3 for students (with ID), seniors, and children. Meredith athletics will cover the admission cost of MC faculty/staff/students with CamCard.
