Angels Cross Finish Third in Season Opener

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Meredith College cross country team opened the 2019 season running in the Monarch Invitational at Methodist University.

The Avenging Angels finished in third place on a tough and challenging course with a total of 55 points. They were bested by conference rivals, the Methodist Monarchs, who finished first place, and N.C. Wesleyan in second.

In her collegiate debut the Avenging Angels were paced by freshman Julie Tonon, as she finished the 6K course in third place overall with a time of 27:56.15. Teammates Mitxi Ortiz and Emma Travis also recorded top-ten overall finishes, running 31:06.66 and 31:19.83, respectively.

The Angels will be in action again next Saturday, Sept. 7, in the Fleet Feet Invitational hosted by Catawba College at the Salisbury Community Park, Salisbury, N.C.
