CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After a nearly three week break from competition, the Meredith College cross country Angels picked up the pace in Friday afternoon's Royals 5K Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. In a field of 541 women, mostly from Division I and Division II programs, two Angels moved up the college's all-time performance list.
New to the team Corrine Weaver led the Avenging Angels with a time of 20:01.8 to finish just outside of the top-200 and moved into fourth on Meredith's top-25 list. Julie Tonon followed with a time of 21:26.9, trimming more than 30 seconds off her 5,000 meter pace from early September, to move up nine spots on all-time performance list.
In her second race of the year, Rachel Hill posted a time of 22:57.5, and Francie Overman set a new personal best with a pace of 23:39.3, knocking more than two minutes off her first 5K time this season. Emily Ward trailed Overman by seconds with a time of 23:45.7, trimming four minutes off her September pace.
In three weeks the Avenging Angels head to Rocky Mount, N.C., for the USA South Cross Country Championships.
