Mike Barroqueiro was selected to lead the Meredith College Soccer program as Head Coach in June of 2026. Barroqueiro comes to Meredith with nearly two decades of Division I coaching experience, including multiple head coaching stints and a track record of program-building success at every stop.

Most recently, Barroqueiro served as the Director of Coaching at Charlotte Independence Soccer Club (CISC), where he oversaw all operations for the North Branch of CISC, which included supervision of over 600 athletes and 100 coaches while also leading competitive boys’ and girls’ team and supporting USL W-League programming.

Prior to his club leadership role, Barroqueiro spent six seasons as head coach of the University of Delaware. While with the Blue Hens, he helped 20 athletes earn honors from the Colonial Athletic Association, including the program’s first ever major award winner. The 2019 season marked a banner year for Barroqueiro and the program. He led the team to the fourth largest win improvement in the nation (+8), the program’s highest win total in 25 years and the No. 2 seed for the CAA Tournament, the best in program history. On the individual side, he helped Olivia Schuck earn CAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, the first major conference award in program history.

Barroqueiro is also no stranger to the Raleigh area, as he spent four seasons as Associate Head Women’s Soccer Coach at North Carolina State University. In his final season with the Wolfpack in 2016, he helped guide the team to its first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance since 1996, a top-25 national ranking and its first NCAA Tournament wins in two decades. The staff earned NSCAA Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors after a breakthrough season featuring multiple ranked wins and the program’s highest RPI and conference success in over a decade.

Barroqueiro’s first head coaching stint began at Iona in 2011 and was highlighted by a 9-6-3 mark in Metro Atlantic Conference Play- this after inheriting a team that won just three games in 2010. He increased the win total by two each season, culminating with seven victories in 2012 and leading the team to consecutive fourth place finishes in league play. Iona was also recognized for its outstanding efforts in the classroom with the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

He began his career as an assistant coach and goalkeepers coach at UMBC in 2006 before moving on to his alma mater Rutgers University for one season in 2007 where he helped tutor nationally-ranked keeper Erin Guthrie. He then moved on to Delaware’s Colonial Athletic Association foe College of Charleston for three seasons in 2008-10. While at Charleston, he served as an assistant for a program that won 12 games in both 2008 and 2009 and reached the Southern Conference Tournament twice, finishing second in 2009.

Barroqueiro is a 2005 graduate of Rutgers University, with a B.A. in criminal justice. He holds United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Licenses and also holds United Soccer Coaches Levels I and II Goalkeeping Licenses.
