Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team hosted their last USA South tri-match on the year on Saturday with Mary Baldwin and Averett. The Avenging Angels gained a sweep over the Fighting Squirrels and lost 3-0 to the Cougars. With the loss to Averett, Meredith snapped their home winning streak and are now 7-1 at home.
Meredith 3, Mary Baldwin 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) - The Fighting Squirrels took an early 6-3 lead in the first set until the Avenging Angels (13-6, 7-4 USA South) put the hammer down and took the three sets easily. Cori Spade led all hitters with 11 kills and seven digs. Anna Hayes and Molly Markley both added five kills. Clarke Glendenning had 14 assists and MaryBeth Finegan pulled up 10 digs.
Averett 3, Meredith 0 (25-23, 25-23, 37-35) - Meredith lost three close sets to Averett (14-6, 9-2) and finished the match with a 37-35 thriller loss. Meredith was led by Spade with 16 kills and eight digs. Markley had 12 kills to go with 17 assists and a block. Finegan led with 12 digs and Kara Baughman had 20 assists.
Meredith next travels to play Southern Virginia on October 5th at 7 p.m.
