DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Meredith College lacrosse Angels avenged their 2015 NCAA Tournament loss to the Rhodes Lynx with a 19-9 victory Saturday afternoon. Katie Burnet and Julie Capretti scored 12 of Meredith's points in the win.

Rhodes got off to a strong start scoring four of the first five points to hold a 4-1 lead at the 20 minute mark. But the Avenging Angels took control of the match during the next eight minutes to claim a 7-4 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the half.

Rhodes responded with three quick goals before a team yellow card left Burnet open to score an unassisted goal to place Meredith back in the lead. Carlee Joseph and Burnet scored twice more to secure a 10-8 Meredith lead heading into the intermission.

The Avenging Angels dominated the final 30 minutes of play outshooting the Lynx 13-4 to secure the sweet victory. Meredith's defense led by Burnet, along with Sarah Arbes, Holly Hite, and Cameron Ruffin, held Rhodes to just one goal in four attempts throughout the second period.

Katie Sills recorded her 13th win in-goal for the Angels with three saves, and Katherine Tooley recorded her third loss on the season with five saves for the Lynx.

Meredith will close out the USA South regular season Saturday, April 9 before facing off with the Methodist Monarchs in round one of the conference tournament in Rocky Mount April 15. Follow the action live HERE.
