Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College lacrosse Angels hosted #14 St. John Fisher College and the USA South's Piedmont Lions to open the college's spring recess Saturday. The nationally ranked Cardinals downed MC Lax 21-4, and Meredith followed with a 21-6 win over Piedmont.
Game one
Fisher's Sydney DeGirolamo had her way with Meredith recording 10 points on four goals, six assists, and leading all with eight draw controls. With 19 first half shots, the Cardinals had no issues controlling the pace of the game throughout the first 30 minutes of play.
Only Tori Witmer and Lilia Cruz found the net for Meredith with Maya Flake and Kylie Phillips each earning an assist.
Fisher slowed down their attack in the second half, adding just nine more goals to secure the win. Cruz and Henley Peatross posted a combined two-for-two from the eight-meter line after SJFC goalie Claudia Mocciaro stopped all three Meredith free position attempts in the first period.
Joy Deitrich recorded eight saves in her fourth loss in goal for the Avenging Angels, and Mocciaro recorded six stops in her second win for the Cards. Lilly Goodsell closed out the match with 5:24 minutes in goal for Fisher, earning a pair of saves.
Game Two
The tides turned in the afternoon match as the Angels out shot Piedmont 41-8. Cruz tallied a match-high six goals and 10 draw controls with one assist. Flake led all with nine points on three goals and a match-high six assists. Witmer finished with five points, and Olivia Blake added four on three goals, one assist and five draws. Brittany Wartman caused three Lion turnovers with as many ground balls, and Phillips finished with four ground balls and one goal.
PC's Aislynn Kimbro led the Lions with a pair of goals, four draw controls.
Deitrich earned two saves in her first win on the season, and Hunter Parrett recorded 15 saves in her third loss in goal for the Lions.
The Avenging Angels return to their home turf tomorrow for another two-game event beginning with the USA South's Brevard Tornados at 11 a.m. The Transylvania Pioneers travel from Lexington, Kentucky, to pair off with MC Lax for the first time in the 4 p.m. contest Sunday afternoon.
