RALEIGH, N.C. -- As the North Carolina spring weather shifted back to another cold night, Meredith College lacrosse outlasted the visiting Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets in a 15-12 victory. Meredith's defensive line pushed back the Jacket's attack with 14 saves from Joy Deitrich.

Friday's night's match remained throughout the first half with the Angels trailing 4-3 at 5:42. Deitrich stopped the next eight-meter attempt, and Jess Dowdy carried the ball down field. Arrianna May drove in for a solo goal to jumpstart a 3-0 scoring series for MC Lax. May recovered the next draw control and found Dowdy in the crease for another point 13 seconds later.

Another May draw control gave the Angels the ball, and Lilia Cruz scored her free position attempt to put Meredith ahead 6-4. The Jackets scored a minute later, but Olivia Blake landed two in the net to extend the advantage to three with 1:23 left in the first half.

Game-leading scorer Bella Samper scored quick for the Yellow Jackets, and another R-MC goal would put the teams back to within one heading into the break.

Meredith put together a couple of multi-point series early in the second half to spread the gap to as many as five with 22:12 remaining. The Jackets scored four of the next six but ran out of time as MC Lax closed out the win.

Cruz scooped up a game-high seven draw controls with a pair of ground balls, one caused, and three goals. Kylie Phillips tallied three goals, and Ansley Harris posted a pair of caused turnovers. Meredith Sinkler, Izzy Steele, Ali Schuh, and Sydney Lee lined of defense as Deitrich's supporting cast to fend off R-MC.

Samper scored six for the Jackets.

The Avenging Angels host the weather make-up with N.C. Wesleyan next Wednesday before the Angels head north for a pair of road matches next weekend.
