Box Score Raleigh, NC - Meredith Lacrosse won a physical battle with the Knights of Southern Virginia on Friday night. Under the lights, in front of their home crowd, Meredith secured a convincing 14-4 win to remain perfect in conference play. This win gives the Avenging Angels sole control of first place in the USA South.
Led again by Meredith Sinkler (3), Meredith's defense was suffocating all night causing 12 Knights turnovers. On attack Meredith outshot their opponent 26-18, with seven different Angels finding the back of the net.
Southern Virginia opened the scoring on a free position shot by Addison England with 9:22 in the first quarter but that would be their only lead of the game. Meredith fired back with three unanswered goals before the Knights scored once more with 31 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 3-2. Meredith's defense locked down in the second quarter and kept the Knights scoreless over the next 39 minutes of play as they went on an 11-0 run.
Sophomore Arri May led the offensive charge with six goals while rookie Lauryn Turner finished with three goals and one assist. Maya Flake, Olivia Verlinden, Kylie Phillips, Tori Witmer and Jess Dowdy added one goal each, as every member of the Meredith attack contributed in the win.
Sophomores Mackenzie Bianchi and Madi Horrell combined for 10 saves in the win.
Meredith Lacrosse has a quick turnaround and are back at home vs Huntingdon College at 1 pm Saturday.
