RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith Field Hockey program picked up a home win 2-1 over Eastern Mennonite Thursday night at the Meredith Track & Field Complex as they honored their 2023 senior class.
The Angels honored three seniors,
MiRonda Swepson,
Bella Allen, and
Kate Erb.
"It wasn't the senior night we planned for but it was the win they deserved, head coach
Colleen Cassada stated. "I'm so proud of the team's hard work and willingness to fight for each other. Our senior trio are our defensive anchors and tonight showed just how much we will miss them."
EMU struck first in the first period and held that 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
With just over five minutes left in the third, the Angels earned a penalty shot and saw sophomore
Sierra Grande tie the game with a calm, cool, collected strike.
The freshman duo of
Megan Ingenito and
Charlotte Dyer were able to give the Avenging Angels the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the ball game. Meredith had been consistently knocking on the door but finally found the back of the goal when Dyer sent a laser pass across to Ingenito who beat the Lions goalie.
The Angel defense was able to continue the stellar effort and hold on to the lead to earn the second victory of the season.
The upcoming game on Saturday against Southern Virginia has been temporarily postponed.
