Basketball trots past Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith basketball program took down cross-town rival William Peace University 77-68 Sunday afternoon inside Weatherspoon Gymnasium as the Angels hosted tons of alumni in front of a capacity crowd.

77 points is the most points scored by Meredith this season so far. The Angels shot 48 percent from the field and dominated the rebounding department. Meredith grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and 45 total while the Pacers only grabbed 26.

Meredith exploded in the first quarter feeding off a great home crowd out scoring William Peace 23-14 in the first. They led by seven at the half.

The game entered the fourth quarter tied up but once again feeding off the home crowd the Angels shut the door on the Pacers down the stretch.

Sophomore Rylie Wade led the way earning a double-double in just 19 minutes for the Angels with 10 rebounds and 14 points. She shot 70 percent from the field.

The freshman duo of Marlee Beam and Skyler Wade both posted eight points with 10 rebounds. Seniors Danika Ray and Piper Carriere combined for 20 points and seven rebounds as well.

Meredith travels to Christopher Newport University on Wednesday for non-conference action.
