Softball splits Sunday double-header against Guilford

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith Softball Program split a double-header against Guilford College Sunday afternoon dropping game one 13-4 before cruising to a 10-1 win in game two.

Guilford put up five runs in the first inning of game one and never looked back. Sophomore Avery Puryear tallied two hits and two RBIs while senior Savannah Talley had one hit with two RBIs. Junior Rheanne Burden, senior Mia Staggs, and sophomores Mariah Bell and Emilee Lewis all picked up a hit each in game one.

Game two was a different story for the Angels as the offense came alive for a five-inning win. Sophomore Lillie Davis only gave up one run on three hits in her win while striking out three.

The tone was set for the Angels in the bottom of the first as senior Sarah Manis tripled to spark the offense. Back-to-back four-run innings for the Angels helped them cruise to a game-two win. Manis picked up two hits for the game.

Davis helped her cause in the circle with two hits and three RBIs. Junior Gracie Massengale also earned three RBIs on two hits while Puryear continued her hot weekend with two RBIs off her first career home run.

Meredith is back in action on March 3rd when they host LaGrange College with game one starting at noon.
