Harrisonburg, Va. - To close out the weekend after their best showing against Randolph-Macon, the Avenging Angels stayed in Virginia to face off against a new opponent, the Owls of Kenyon College. The two teams met for the first time at Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, September 14th.
How it Happened:
? The Owls of Kenyon College had an early start against the Angels, finding the back of the net four minutes into the match. Meredith responded quickly with
Charlotte Dyer giving the assist to
Maya Kirstein just three minutes later to tie it up. However, the Owls were able to best the defense once more, gaining a 2-1 lead going into the second period.
? The Meredith defense stayed strong through the majority of the second quarter, however after numerous denied opportunities by
Shae-Lynn Henderson, Kenyon broke through to notch their third goal of the match with under five minutes left. Before the final whistle could blow, Kenyon recorded their fourth goal with less than a minute on the clock.
? The Angels shifted the momentum going to the second half, putting up a game high five shots (four on goal) while limiting the Owls to just one corner. Halfway through the third quarter,
Maya Kirstein found the back to the cage again off a pass from
Sierra Grande to reduce the gap, 2-4.
? Meredith kept the momentum going through the final 15 minutes, working the ball around the Owl's circle. However, despite their efforts, they were not able to capitalize on cage again. The Angels defense denied Kenyon the chance on goal for the rest of the game, only allowing 1 corner for the second period in a row.
