Raleigh, N.C. - The Avenging Angels took the home field on Sunday, September 8th, to face off against their old foes; the Vixens of Sweet Briar College. After facing an early deficit, the Angels (1-1) mounted a stellar comeback to clinch their first win of the 2024 season.
How it Happened:
? The Vixens outshot the Angels 4 to 1, gaining their first and only point with 6:25 left in the quarter. Meredith's defensive unit was strong through the final minutes of the period, fending off multiple Sweet Briar shot attempts.
? Trailing 0-1, the Angels were hungry to get on the board in the second quarter.
Maya Kirstein quickly closed the gap, recording her first goal of the match just 5:05 into the period. The two teams remained at a stalemate for the remaining minutes leading into half time.
? The third quarter proved fruitless for both opponents as neither team could break the tie in the 15 minutes of play. The Meredith offense turned up the heat on the Vixens defense, getting a game high five shots off in the circle.
? Meredith came out and took control with a newfound energy and confidence for the final quarter. With 8:52 left on the clock,
Maya Kirstein sent a high rebound into the net, securing the Angel's lead. Just one minute and 52 seconds later,
Charlotte Dyer raced through the defense on a breakaway, slamming the ball into the back of the cage. Now with a comfortable two goal lead, Catherine Horn led the Angel's defense, holding off Vixens' final offensive attempts.
