Meredith’s Comeback Falls Short against William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C. | Meredith College basketball fell 62-51 to cross-town rivals William Peace University on Wednesday night at the Hermann gym. The Avenging Angels outshot the Pacers in the first half to take the 24-20 advantage into the break. William and Peace found another gear on the offensive end and put up 42 points in the final two frames to secure the victory. Meredith battled to the very end and went on an impressive 9-0 run in the final stages of the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Pam Mock made three jumpers early in the first quarter and Danae Hawkins added on a triple and a jumper of her own to give Meredith the 13-4 advantage.
  • Emme Baber skipped a pass to Kendalyn Dixon for a three to punctuate a strong first ten minutes for the Avenging Angels.
  • After giving up two opening baskets to start the second quarter, William Peace went on an 8-2 run. The Pacers capitalized at the charity stripe, making seven free throws. Going into the break, Meredith held the 24-20 lead.
  • The third quarter was back-and-forth with five lead changes. Alayna Randolph nailed a three for William Peace to give them their first lead of the game. Mock and Rylie Wade led the response for Meredith. Mock drained a jumper, and Wade converted a layup to regain the lead, 29-27. The Pacers forced the fifth lead change of the quarter. Randolph made a free throw to tie the game and then scored on the next possession to give WPU the 34-32 advantage.  
  • Meredith rattled off a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter, but the clock wasn't on the Avenging Angels side as their comeback fell short.
  • Kylie Wade and Pam Mock led Meredith's offense, each scoring 12 points. Paris Bethea wasn't far behind putting up 10 points. Rylie Wade and Kendalyn Dixon corralled 10 rebounds apiece.
  • Randolph was the leading scorer on the night for William Peace with 20 points on 6-16 from the field, three triples, and five free throws.
