RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith College Avenging Angels soccer team secured a 1-0 victory at home Wednesday night over USA South Conference opponent NC Wesleyan, showcasing both strong defensive discipline and an energized attack.
Meredith struck early in the first half when Emma Jolliff set up Kathryn Angrave, who buried the game's lone goal. Angrave was a force throughout the match, recording four shots on goal and leading the Avenging Angels' offensive push. Overall, Meredith generated 11 shots on frame, keeping steady pressure on the Battling Bishops' defense.
On the defensive end, Meredith was equally sharp. The goalkeeper duo of Samantha Woodfin and Carter Knox, along with a resilient back line, shut down NC Wesleyan's advances, limiting the Bishops to just six total shots.
The Avenging Angels have faced a competitive schedule to open the fall, and that early test has helped the team grow and gel on the field. Wednesday's win reflected the perseverance and progress Meredith has shown so far this season.
Meredith soccer will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Staunton, Va., this weekend to take on USA South opponent Mary Baldwin University. The match is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
