RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College women's basketball team fell to Averett University, 65–47, on Wednesday afternoon at Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
GAME NOTES
Averett jumped out to an early advantage, holding Meredith to six points in the opening quarter and building a 17–6 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Avenging Angels responded in the second quarter, finding success at the free-throw line to trim the deficit, but Averett maintained control heading into halftime with a 36–21 advantage.
Meredith showed renewed energy coming out of the break, shooting 45.5 percent from the field in the third quarter and matching Averett with 14 points in the period. However, the Cougars used strong interior play and transition scoring to preserve their lead and pull away in the final quarter.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Sophomore Molly Zuburg led Meredith with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while playing almost all 40 minutes. Emma Roche added 11 points off the bench, shooting 4-for-4 from the field, while Mary Church contributed 10 points and four rebounds. The Avenging Angels won the rebounding battle, 44–41, but struggled to convert field goals against Averett's defensive pressure.
