GREENSBORO, N.C. | Meredith College softball swept Guilford College 7-3, 13-3 in Sunday's doubleheader.
Tess Spangenburg had a great day at the plate for the Avenging Angels. She went 2-4 in game one with a double and two RBIs and tacked on one more hit in game two.
Lillie Davis got the start and the win in game one. She threw a complete game and recorded seven strikeouts.
Kaylee Manning picked up her first collegiate win in the circle. She started and pitched four innings, striking out three Quakers.

GAME ONE
SCORING
- In the second inning, Spangenburg stepped up to the plate and roped an RBI double to right center. The next batter, Kaydon Roberson, grounded out to the pitcher and a throwing error from Guilford allowed Spangenburg to score putting Meredith ahead 2-0.
- UNCG transfer, Ashbee Standridge hit the first long ball of the season for the Avenging Angels. With two on base, she mashed one over the fence in center field to make it 5-0.
- Guilford got on the board in the fourth inning with a sac fly and a wild pitch to cut the deficit to three, 5-2.
- Spangenburg responded in the fifth inning and hit a sharp single to third base that drove in Mia Staggs.
- Morgan Singletary squared up a pitch in the sixth inning and sent it over the fence in left center for the solo homer.
- Anna Morgan Armstrong hit an RBI grounder in the sixth that scored Roberson from third and brought the score to 7-3. Lillie Davis ended the game by striking out Abbey Whelan to secure Meredith's first win of the season.
HITTING
- Mia Staggs went 2-3 at the plate in game one, had a double, and scored two runs. Spangenburg also had two hits and a double and tacked on RBIs.
- Tess Spangenburg had one hit, but made it count with the three run homer to center.
PITCHING
- Davis pitched a complete game to pick up her first win of the season. Through seven innings she recorded seven strikeouts, didn't walk a batter, and allowed five hits.
GAME TWO
SCORING
- Meredith scored three runs in the first inning. Next inning, Morgan Knight drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rheanne Burden singled up the middle, advancing Knight to third. Lindsey Drew tallied an RBI to put the Avenging Angels up 4-0. She stepped up to the plate and launched a fly ball to right that was caught but drove in Knight.
- Guilford scored two runs in the third and each team tacked on another run in the 5th. At the end of the fifth inning, Meredith led 5-3.
- The Avenging Angels added five runs in the seventh inning to claim the 13-3 victory and the sweep. Davis mashed an RBI triple to right and at the next at bat Knight hit a sharp one to the pitcher that scored Davis.
- Later in the inning, Emilee Lewis hit a single to left that drove in two runs. Sarah Manis' RBI double to right center scored the final runs of the game for Meredith.
HITTING
- Emilee Lewis and Sarah Manis both went 2-4 at the plate. Lewis had three RBIs and a stolen base, while Manis hit two doubles and drove in a pair of runs.
- Davis made her lone hit of the second game count, launching a triple, which drove in a run
- Morgan Knight and Abbey Fowler had a hit and an RBI.
- Lindsey Drew recorded an RBI on a well hit sac fly.
PITCHING
- Kaylee Manning got the start and her first collegiate win. Manning pitched four innings and recorded three strikeouts.
- Emily Dorsey and Jammie Wrenn both threw an inning. Davis came in for the final inning and tallied two strikeouts.
