Meredith Falls to Pfeiffer in Wednesday's Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. | Pfeiffer got the best of Meredith in Wednesday's USA South doubleheader. The Falcons took game one 8-0 and completed the sweep with a 9-1 victory in game two.

Game One:
Pfeiffer got on the board early, scoring in the first inning when Gracie Griffin singled to bring in Landry Stewart. The Falcons then added to their lead in the third when Erin Bullin doubled, driving in Emma Chopko for a 2-0 advantage.

Meredith fought to stay in the game, but the Falcons' offense remained relentless. In the fourth inning, Griffin singled again, scoring Stewart for a 3-0 lead. The Falcons kept the pressure on with another run in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-0.

The game took a decisive turn in the sixth inning when Pfeiffer scored four more runs. Bullin's single scored Griffin, and a costly outfield error allowed two more Falcons to cross the plate. Pfeiffer scored two more runs in the frame to go ahead 8-0.

On the mound, Erin Bullin was nearly flawless, allowing just one hit and striking out six over six innings of work. Meredith could not generate any significant offense, with their only hit coming from Mia Staggs in the second inning. Overall, the Avenging Angels could not overcome Pfeiffer's dominant pitching.

Meredith's Lillie Davis took the loss. She was relieved by Emily Dorsey and Leila Slater finished the game for the Avenging Angels.

Game Two:
Pfeiffer wasted no time taking control of the game, scoring five runs in the second inning. The scoring started when Griffin crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and the pitching miscues continued for Meredith. The Falcons added on the final two runs of the frame when Broaddus reached on an error, bringing in Stewart and Cooper to make it 5-0.

Meredith got on the board in the third inning, thanks to a solid single by Sarah Manis, which drove in Mariah Bell, cutting Pfeiffer's lead to 5-1. However, the Falcons quickly responded with more runs. In the fourth, Pfeiffer added two more runs, including one from Stewart, who scored on another wild pitch, making it 7-1.

The Falcons sealed the win with two more runs in the fifth inning. Auman's walk and a fielder's choice from Cook each brought in runs, giving Pfeiffer a comfortable 9-1 lead.

Bullin took the circle for back-to-back starts, earning the win after allowing just one run on five hits over five innings. She struck out five and only walked one batter.

Meredith's pitcher, Kaylee Manning, took the loss after allowing seven runs on three hits in four innings of work. Walks plus errors led to a tough game defensively for Meredith.

Despite the loss, Meredith's Ashbee Standridge, who went 2-for-3 with a double, was among the few players who consistently made solid contact against Bullin's pitching. Bell also contributed with a double and a run scored, but the team could not get the bats going to challenge Pfeiffer.

Ky Perdue led Pfeiffer's offense going 2-for-3, and Broaddus scored two runs and reached base twice.
