RALEIGH, NC | Meredith Tennis struggled to find momentum in their conference match against Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Monarchs. Despite the tough loss, several players showed determination, particularly in singles play, as the team continues to improve throughout the season.
Doubles: Methodist Sets the Tone Early
Methodist won the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At the #1 spot, Meredith's
Ellie Osborne and
Claire Southern battled hard but ultimately fell to Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats 6-3. The #2 doubles pairing of
Hannah Jo Jablonski and
Cate Reilly faced a tough challenge against Caitlin Tihanovich and Katie Sechrist, dropping the match 6-1. Finally,
Kate Jackson and
Anna Bittler fell to Veva Willocks and Wilette R. Morales 6-0.
Singles: Osborne's Close Fight Highlights the Day
In singles, Meredith showed resilience, with several players putting in competitive performances. At #1 singles,
Ellie Osborne gave a valiant effort against Methodist's top player, Emma Hulicki. Osborne kept the first set close, narrowly falling 7-5, but eventually lost the second set 6-2. Despite the result, Osborne's performance stood out as she was able to hang tough against the Monarch's top player.
In the #2 singles match,
Claire Southern faced a tough opponent in Annabelle Subirats, who won 6-0, 6-3. Likewise,
Cate Reilly battled hard against Caitlin Tihanovich but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-2.
At the #4 spot,
Hannah Jo Jablonski fought hard in the first set but fell to Katie Sechrist 6-1, 6-3. Despite the loss, Jo battled hard in the second set to win three games.
Kate Jackson, competing in the #6 singles position, faced Madelyn Parker and struggled to find her rhythm, losing 6-2, 6-2.
