Raleigh, NC | Meredith College tennis (0-6, 0-2 USA South) suffered a tough 6-1 defeat against Randolph-Macon College (7-4, 3-4 ODAC) on Tuesday afternoon at the Meredith Tennis Complex. Despite the loss, there were moments of individual success, most notably from senior
Anna Bittler, who delivered the team's only victory on the day winning her singles match 6-1, 6-4.
DOUBLES:
Randolph-Macon dominated in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. In the top doubles slot,
Ellie Osborne and
Claire Southern lost to Camilla Thurman and Catherine Mowry, 6-1.
Hannah Jo Jablonski and
Cate Reilly fell 6-1 to Meckenzie Letellier and Emma Turner. The final doubles match saw
Kate Jackson and
Anna Bittler win two games but drop the match to Layla Gaines and Mary Blair Seward 6-2.
SINGLES:
Heading into singles, the Yellow Jackets maintained their momentum. Camilla Thurman delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Osborne in the No. 1 position, while Mowry followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Southern. Meckenzie Letellier put on a clinic, blanking Reilly 6-0, 6-0 in the third slot. Elizabeth Key added another point for Randolph-Macon, defeating Jo Jablonski 6-2, 6-0.
However, Meredith's
Anna Bittler offered a bright spot for the team. After a challenging doubles match, Bittler bounced back in singles with a determined 6-1, 6-4 win over Emma Turner. Bittler's resilience and skill were on full display as she battled for the singles win.
In the final singles match, Brielle Baughman clinched the victory for Randolph-Macon with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over
Kate Jackson.
