Meredith Battles Hard in Loss to Salem College

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 6, 2025) – Meredith College's tennis team battled hard, but couldn't secure a senior day victory against the Salem College Spirits (3-6) on Saturday afternoon at the Meredith Tennis Complex. Despite a valiant effort, the Avenging Angels lost 6-1, with their sole point coming from a standout performance by senior Hannah Jo Jablonski.

Before the match, Meredith celebrated seniors Anna Bittler, Ellie Osborne, and Claire Southern for their contributions to the tennis program.

Doubles Highlights:
Salem quickly took control in doubles play, winning all three matches. In the top doubles slot, Meredith's Ellie Osborne and Claire Southern struggled against the strong pairing of Adley Keim and Cymone Crump, who dominated with a 6-0 win. The duo of Jablonski and Reilly fought hard but fell 7-5 to Daisy Ortiz Mendoza and Chloe Koons in the second doubles match. Meredith's Kate Jackson and Anna Bittler were also bested in the third doubles match, 6-4, by Mariana Faint and Abrielle Eckenroth.

Singles Highlights:
The singles competition saw some tough battles, but Meredith ultimately fell short in five of the six matches. In the number one singles slot, Osborne couldn't break through against Salem's Adley Keim, losing 6-1, 6-2. The second singles match featured a competitive showdown between Claire Southern and Salem's Cymone Crump, but Southern came up just short in a thrilling three-set match, 6-3, 5-7, 10-5.

Meredith's Jablonski provided the bright spot for the team in the fourth singles spot. She delivered an impressive 6-0, 6-3 victory over Salem's Daisy Ortiz Mendoza. Jablonski's win was a testament to her skill and determination, as she consistently outplayed her opponent and brought some much-needed energy to the team.

Unfortunately, Salem's Chloe Koons and Abrielle Eckenroth sealed the match with victories in the fifth and sixth singles spots. Koons defeated Anna Bittler 6-4, 7-5, while Eckenroth claimed a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win over Kate Jackson in a hard-fought battle.
