GETTYSBURG, Pa. | Meredith's historic lacrosse season ended today after the first round of the NCAA tournament. Meredith fell 19-5 to Trinity College (CT) at Calrk Field on Saturday. The Avenging Angels scored two goals in the first quarter, but the Bantams' relentless attack saw them take the 12-2 lead at the half and score seven more in the final 30 minutes to win and advance to the next round.
"Our team played their hearts out all year long," said head coach
Lauren Scott. "Even this tough loss it's not an exception to the effort in which they put into the game and every day. We will always be proud of our 11x Champs."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Reese Walker got Meredith on the board, releasing a shot that found the nylon with 10:31 left in the first quarter. Allison June Mabe scored thirty seconds later. She was fouled and then buried her free position, shot into the back of the net to even the score at two.
- Kelsey Restivo fired one past Horrell to break the tie in favor of Trinity. Kaeley Zito scored on the next Bantam possession to put them ahead by two, 4-2.
- Madi Horrell made a great stick save, denying Alex Lesko with 5:58 left in the frame.
- Trinity scored two more goals to take a 6-2 lead after the first quarter.
- Lesko scored in the opening minute of the second quarter to spark a dominant frame from the Bantams. Trinity scored six straight goals, to go up 12-2 going into the third quarter.
- Elle White halted Trinity's scoring run late in the third quarter. She earned a free position shot and slotted it home for Meredith's third goal of the game.
- Kenzie Todd notched back-to-back tallies for the Avenging Angels in the fourth quarter.
- Ivy Armentrout scored Trinity's final goal of the game as the Bantam's earned the 19-5 win to advance to the next round in the tournament.
- Turnovers hurt the Avenging Angels today. They had 15 compared to Trinity's 12 with the Bantams causing 14 of the 15 miscues.
- Todd paced the Avenging Angel's offense with two goals, Walker had a goal and an assist, and Mabe and White each scored a goal.
- Horrell made 10 saves in her final game in goal for the Avenging Angels.
- Alex Lesko led Trinity in the win, scoring six goals and Grace Denious had a game-high three assists.
The Avenging Angels set the program record for most wins in a season with 18 victories and won their 11
