RALEIGH, N.C. — Meredith College Athletics is proud to welcome
Bryonne Herring as the first-ever Head Coach of the Avenging Angels flag football program. Herring brings a decade of coaching experience in strength and conditioning and football—most notably flag football—and will lead the inaugural team as the College launches its newest varsity sport.
"I'm honored to step into this role and excited to help our players grow both on and off the field," said Herring. "Flag football is more than just a game—it's a chance to build character, teamwork, and confidence. I'm looking forward to building a team founded on hard work, growth, and fun."
Herring joins Meredith from SUNY Brockport, where he served as the Head Coach of the Women's Club Flag Football Team. He guided the Brockport program with a focus on player development, team strategy, and communication. His leadership elevated team dynamics and built a foundation of competitive excellence—experience that will be pivotal in building Meredith's program from the ground up.
A USA Football Advanced Flag Football Licensed Coach and CSCS/RSCC Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Herring is well-versed in athlete development, both on the field and in the weight room. He brings a holistic, athlete-centered approach to coaching that emphasizes growth, performance, and well-being.
In addition to his work with flag football, Herring has a strong background in collegiate football with experience at both Stevenson University and King's College. He has also coached with the UA Rise Youth Football League, working closely with young athletes to develop fundamental skills and a love for the game.
Prior to coming to Meredith, Herring was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at SUNY Brockport, where he oversaw training for all 23 NCAA Division III athletic teams. Throughout his career, he has held strength and conditioning leadership roles at Stevenson University, King's College, RIT, and the University of Mount Olive, developing a national reputation for building comprehensive, sport-specific training programs and fostering athlete development across a wide range of sports.
Herring will lead the flag football program while also contributing to the strength and conditioning efforts for Meredith student-athletes, using his expertise in performance training and development to support their growth and success.
"Bryonne's vision for building a competitive and inclusive flag football program aligns perfectly with Meredith's mission and values," said Athletic Director
Jackie Myers. "He's not only an experienced coach—he's a leader, mentor, and builder. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Avenging Angels family."
A native of Gates, N.Y., Herring played collegiate football as a defensive back at SUNY Brockport and earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2015. He later earned a master's degree in strength and conditioning from LaGrange College in 2018.
Herring lives in Clayton, NC with his wife Vilma and their four children: Bryanna, Deanna, Emyiah, and Bryonne Jr.
The
Avenging Angels flag football team is set to debut in the 2026-27 academic year.
