Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Meredith Field Hockey Wins Its First Home Opener in Program History

RALEIGH, NC - Meredith College Field Hockey took to their home field for the first time of the 2025 campaign and set the tone early against the Vixens of Sweet Briar, walking away with a dominant 5-1 performance. Today's match marks the first time in program history that the Angels have won their home opener.

How it Happened:
The Angels burst out of the gate at the first whistle and set an early pace. Only a minute and a half into the quarter, Meredith earned their first stroke of the season. Sierra Grande stepped up to the mark but was stopped by Sweet Briar's Goalie. It didn't take long for the Angels to attack again as Charlotte Dyer ran the baseline and found Maya Kirstein waiting in front of the cage to record the first goal of the match.

Meredith, feeling the momentum, mounted another offensive which quickly converted for Megan Ingenito, who collected a rebound off the goalie to give the Angels a two goal lead. Ingenito scored just 1 minute and 42 seconds into the second period. The Angels sent another six shots but were stopped by the Vixens defense going into the half.

The third quarter proved fruitful for both teams. Meredith continued their attack, sending in four shots against the Vixens defense. Then with 10 minutes remaining, Maya Kirstein wanted more and capitalized on another pass from Charlotte Dyer to put the Angels up 3-0. The Vixens did not quit and took their chance in a quick transition, getting on the board with three minutes left, recording their one and only shot for the full match.

The Angels wanted to keep their offensive pressure and came out with intent, recording their fourth goal of the match only 57 seconds into the final period. Megan Ingenito sent a rocket from the baseline past the goalie to earn her second point of the match. With the clock winding down, Meredith drew a corner in the final seconds. One final chance to put up points. After the initial shot in, Charlotte Dyer leaped onto a rebound off the goalie and secured the final goal of the match with 0 seconds left on the clock. Giving the Angels a 5-1 victory over the Vixens.
