RALEIGH, N.C - Meredith College field hockey hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 24th, under the lights at home. The Avenging Angels fought hard with a strong second-half comeback but ultimately fell in a close 4-3 match-up.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Avenging Angels opened the first quarter with two shots but were unable to convert, while Virginia Wesleyan took an early 1-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Meredith continued to battle, adding two more shots, but went into halftime trailing 2-0.
The Angels came out strong in the third quarter as
Charlotte Dyer put Meredith on the board with their first goal of the night. Meredith tallied seven shots in this period and built momentum heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter brought excitement for the Angels as
Megan Ingenito scored off an assist from
Maya Kirstein, and moments later Kirstein, who converted a pass from
Natasha Elder, added a goal to tie the game at three-all.
Virginia Wesleyan regained the lead shortly after, despite 10 shots and two corners in the period from Meredith, ending the match with Wesleyan in the lead 4-3.

Meredith recorded 21 total shots and earned five penalty corners all in the second half.
Charlotte Dyer,
Megan Ingenito, and
Maya Kirstein each scored for the Avenging Angels.
With their goals Ingenito leads with 16 career goals in program history, Dyer and Kirstein trail with 15 goals. This is the first time in match-up history that the Angels have scored against the Marlins and allowed just a one-goal margin.
