RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College Field Hockey hosted the first game in its tournament weekend. The Avenging Angels faced off against Wittenberg on Saturday September 27th and controlled the pace throughout the match and earned a 4-1 victory to lift their record to 5-4. The victory marked the single-season program record for most wins,
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Meredith wasted no time getting on the board in the first quarter, as
Lydia Smith scored her first career goal just over three minutes into the game to give the Avenging Angels an early lead.
Meredith outshot Wittenberg four to zero in the first period, leaving the score 1-0.
In the second quarter, the Tigers broke through with the equalizer, but Meredith responded with offensive pressure and recorded nine shots. Despite the pressure, the Angels went into halftime tied 1-1.
The game shifted back to Meredith's favor in the third quarter.
Megan Ingenito found the back of the net with an assist from
Maya Kirstein. Meredith continued its momentum with nine more shots on goal, ending the third 2-1 for the Avenging Angels.
Meredith sealed the win in the fourth quarter.
Maya Kirstein made a penalty stroke to further extend the lead. Shortly after,
Cambria Chandler scored her first goal of the season, assisted by
Marissa Tilgner off a corner making the score 4-1. The Angels closed the match with a dominant stance, controlling the field and outshooting Wittenberg in the final quarter.

Meredith tallied 31 shots total, with 16 shots on goal and seven penalty corners. Goals came from
Lydia Smith,
Megan Ingenito,
Maya Kirstein, and
Cambria Chandler, while
Maya Kirstein and
Marissa Tilgner each added an assist.
Lydia Smith's goal marked the first of her collegiate career. The victory also marked the most wins in a single season for Meredith Field Hockey, achieved at the halfway point of the 2025 campaign.
