RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College field hockey hosted nationally ranked No. 15 Shenandoah University on Sunday, September 28th, in the program's first-ever meeting. Despite a strong defensive effort highlighted by 15 saves from the Avenging Angels goalkeepers, Meredith fell 9-0 to close out its tournament weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Meredith opened the game with strong defensive pressure and several early saves to slow Shenandoah's quick start, unfortunately the Hornets took the lead in the first quarter 4-0.
The Angels continued to fight in the second quarter, they settled in defensively and slowed the Hornet's attack to limit their scoring pace ending the first half 6-0.
The third quarter highlighted Meredith's best stretch, as the defense stopped seven Shenandoah penalty corners without allowing a goal, while also creating their best offensive chance of the day on a shot from
Megan Ingenito. The Angels were unable to capitalize and ended the quarter behind 8-0.
The Avenging Angels closed the game with resilience, adding more saves in the final quarter and earning a late penalty corner before time expired leaving the score 9-0 Shenandoah.
